In Oceans is a young band from Lodi, Ca who have been playing together for 2 years. They recently released their first ep entitled "Earthwalker". Most of the songs on the album remind me of Lower Definition and Emarosa to a lesser degree. That comparison is positive especially if it's vocally. Stephen Parrish has major league singing ability.
The fourth song on the ep "Moon Teeth" caught me off guard because it sounded more like a Family Force 5/Dance track. At first I thought "that song sounds nothing like the rest of the album" but it definitely got me thinking. Most new bands are trying to find the sound that fits them the best. If you are unsigned why not try different things? Most of the buzz you are going to generate now a days is through the internet. It can't hurt to show some variety. Most importantly, if you can pull it off.
In conclusion, this album does not blow me away but if I was an A&R rep I would keep tabs on these guys. They mix it up well and it's nice to hear bands bring back big singing parts over breakdowns. Throw in a few ambient parts and you can see why they have the ingredients for future success.
